Out and About... Harrods

Harrods at Christmas...

A couple of weeks ago, through university I went on a trip to London to see the 175 years at the Royal College of Art. We weren't allowed to take pictures in the exhibition but it was interesting to see the different products and designs that have come out of the university. We then took a walk down to Harrods to have a look at the way designers and shops set up their displays to sell their work. It was amazing to see designer's clothes up close, being able to touch and feel something I will never be able to afford! I also like to see what window displays they have up, always amazing at Christmas time. And this year being no exception. Based on Disney princesses, a different window for a different story, with even better designer dresses! My pictures are a bit difficult to see because of the reflection of the background behind but you can get the gist, and if you are interested go have a look for yourself! There is so many little details to their sections that really make the stories come alive...

I really enjoyed looking at all the windows and seeing the different interpretations of the princess fairytale stories come to life. How each designer had chosen a dress to distinguish each character. My favourite being Aurora by Elie Saab. I love the dreamy colour and texture of the dress being light and flowery, like she has fallen asleep in a bed of flowers and they have grown over her. And I love the details that have been put into each window, like the spindle and cobwebs to make it look like she has been asleep for many many years. My other favourite is Ariel, I've always had a soft spot for that character as it is my favourite Disney film and I love the detailing that has been put into the display, like the lobsters and anemones. I also like how they have included one of my favourite artists, Chihuly who uses glass in a way that makes it look like it is suppose to belong under the sea, hence why they have used it in the Little Mermaid window. You can see more of Chihuly's work at the V&A in the glass sculpture section and in the main entrance lobby, where when you look up you can see a massive green and blue chandelier sculpture that looks like its growing from the ceiling. I fully recommend if you are a Disney, fairy tale fan or like to look at pretty dresses go have a look at Harrods windows!! (And inside of course!)
